December 16 -- For a second consecutive year, ReNEW SciTech Academy will host Chili In The Channel. The fourth annual event is set for Saturday, January 28 from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.
The competition will include 20 teams -- a mix of amateurs and professionals -- who will compete for the coveted "Golden Chili Pot." In 2016, we saw the crew from ReNEW Dolores T. Aaron Academy bring home the prize. Dat Dog has already signed on to defend their "Best Professional Team" title, and the field of competitors is already filling up. ReNEW is proud to welcome back Gulf Coast Bank as presenting sponsor, and Urban South Brewery as the official beverage sponsor.
December 15, 2016 -- Thanks to a donation drive spearheaded by the Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association, NOPD and the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation, more than 100 pre-K and kindergarten students enjoyed an early holiday surprise. Police officers unloaded 120 brand new bikes -- lining them up in front of the MCPA building at around 9:00 am on Thursday, December 15. When the clock hit 10:00, dozens of wide-eyed, smiling children began pouring out of the building in an orderly fashion -- eyes fixed on their new gifts.
December 15, 2016 -- On Thursday December 15, more than 300 students from ReNEW SciTech Academy received new sets of pajamas. The "Jammies For Juniors" drive secured funds from donors across the country.
October 19, 2016 -- Folk-rock musician Graham Nash, actress Alfre Woodard and NY Times columnist David Brooks were on hand to help officially launch ReNEW Dolores T. Aaron Academy's Turnaround Arts program. DTA joins ReNEW McDonogh City Park Academy and ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy as the only Turnaround Arts schools in New Orleans.
September 30, 2016 -- Colleen Mackay, who assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at ReNEW Schools in January, announced plans to step down from the position after completion of the 2016-2017 school year. Mackay will be moving out-of-state to be with her family, following a successful tenure with the charter network since 2009. The ReNEW Board of Directors is launching a search to find her replacement via national firm, Bellwether Education Partners.
