“Chili in the Channel” Returns to the Irish Channel on Saturday March 7 with ReNEW Schools

 

Saturday, March 7th from 11am to 4pm at ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy

New Orleans, LA – Set in the beautiful backdrop of the Irish Channel on a perfect winter day, the second annual “Chili in the Channel” chili cookoff will pit more than 15 local chefs against each other, with professional judges and the community deciding who will win the “Golden Pot.” Participants will start preparing their chili as early as 6am (they must cook onsite), and the public is invited to sample chili from 11am to 4pm. Proceeds from the event will benefit end of year college trips for ReNEW students.

This event will be held on 9th Street between Laurel and Constance in the play yard of ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy on Saturday, March 7 from 11am to 4pm.  The entry fee will be $5 and includes 2 samples. Additional chili samples are $1 each, and featured NOLA Brewing beers will cost $4. Pairing perfectly with the delicious southwestern flavors of chili, various Cazadores cocktails will be served.

This community event will include amateur and celebrity chefs.

Awards for the event will include Best Overall Best Vegetarian, Best Meat, Most Creative, and “Panache”. More than fifteen teams are hoping to win the "Golden Chili Pot," including the talented chefs at The King Pin, Midway Pizza, Tracey’s, Audubon Tea Room, and The Rum House.

The judges include Travers Mackel, WDSU Correspondent, Sarah Baird, food writer for the Gambit, and Chef Dave Gotter, reigning cookoff champion and executive chef at GG’s Dine-O-Rama on Magazine.
