ReNEW Schools Hosts the First Annual “Chili in the Channel” Chili Cookoff on February 8, 11am-4pm

New Orleans, LA – Set on the beautiful backdrop of the Irish Channel on a perfect winter day, the first-ever “Chili in the Channel” chili cookoff will pit 15 local chefs against each other, with professional judges and the community deciding who will win the “Golden Pot.” Participants will start preparing their chili as early as 6am (they must cook onsite), and the public is invited to sample chili from 11am to 4pm. Proceeds from the event will benefit ReNEW Schools’ innovative approach to education.

This event will be held on Laurel Street between 8th and 9th, in the play yard of ReNEW Cultural Arts Academy on Saturday, February 8 from 11am-4pm. Admission is $5 and includes 2 samples. Additional chili samples are $1 each, and featured NOLA Brewing beers will cost $3.

This community event will include amateurs and professional chefs.

Awards for the event will include Best Overall Best Vegetarian, Best Meat, Most Creative, and “Panache”. Fifteen teams are hoping to  win the "Golden Chili Pot," including Palace Café,  Cleaver & Co., Charcoal's, The Rum House, Booty's Street Food, Midway, Tracy’s and more.

NOLA Brewery will also be in attendance with their blonde and brown ales. Dance music is provided by DJ Yamin and NOLA Mix. The judges include Kurt Broadtmann from Dijon, Scott Gold from Best of New Orleans, Jeff Mattia of American Sector, and Guy Williams, CEO of Gulf Coast Bank.
